The Oxenham Arms Hotel & Restaurant
Gardens & Grounds
The Oxenham Arms Hotel is located in the heart of South Zeal village in the Dartmoor National Park. We are just 5 mins off the A30 dual carriagway.
Parking is either in our front car park, in the village or in the large car park 3 minutes walk from our front door.
At the rear of the Oxenham Arms Hotel we have 5 acres of beautiful grounds with stunning views of Dartmoor. Our grounds began life as monastery grounds where crops would have been grown.
Benedictine monks are "pescatarians" and so they would have eaten fruit, vegetables, grains and carp. Surrounding our grounds are medieval "Burgage Plot".
These Burgage Plots are a major feature of South Zeal. They were created in the 12th Century when the French Baron who managed the region for the King, gained a licence to have a weekly market in the middle of the village
Accessed by ancient granite steps our beautifully maintained gardens have seating and tables for 100 people. All tables have views of Dartmoor's Cosdon Beacon.
At the top of our gardens is a beautiful granite stone circle looking up onto the moor.
You will see our own Dartmoor Ponies, our rare breed Sheep and also our Geese.
The Dartmoor Way walking trail goes across our grounds, you can walk from our hotel directly onto The Dartmoor National park and its network of walking trails
